makerofthegames : Gaming 101

The graphics are half-assed, the gameplay is literally impossible, the music is atrocious, and you will love every second of it.

;_;
A brief history: makerofthegames is known amongst the GMC as a bit of a troll (the good kind), consistently hilarious in his antics, from hacking into moderator-restricted boards to exploiting vote systems. His jokes are typically harmless unlike other trolls, and he's gained a lot of respect as a person from myself and many others in the community.

Gaming 101 tied for 5th place in the GMC Jam out of 59 people. The notable thing about it is that it's not even a game, really. It's more or less an interactive rant. The main appeal of the game is being yelled at.

The game features a narrator that guides you in the most condescending ways possible. He's sarcastic, insults your intelligence, and has very little patience. There are no lives, so you always get a second chance, but not without a witty rebuff. And if you go ahead without him and get yourself killed, he will refuse to help you through it. It takes a good amount of skill to make being verbally harassed enjoyable.

I'll try not to spoil the climax of the game but everything pulls together well in the end. The entire Jam game is in response to reception of his previous jam game, High On Life, where the first level involved shooting a helicopter out of the sky as it launched missiles at you. Player reactions went along the lines of "i kannt beet dis helicopöter becuz wat do it hard :((((( am i suposed to redirekt da missiles back at teh helicopöter????" despite the fact that your character clearly had a gun and the instructions clearly stated how to use it. Well over half of the players couldn't pass the first level, and the game got an abysmal 55th place out of 56 ranks. Gaming 101 points this out. In fact, it points this out for a straight five minutes while you're stuck on an impossible level.

This game is not fun. It's not pretty, it's not calming, it's not deep. But call me a liar if I say it's not brilliant in its execution and hilarious to its roots, because it is. This is by far one of the funniest games I've played in the past few months, and I highly recommend you give it a go.
